About

ADA is a non-profit association whose aim is to spread knowledge and spark conversation on key issues in the cultural and creative industries.  We do this by organizing talks and courses with leading national and international experts in their field.  Our evening talks, lectures, conversations and courses welcome members and non-members.

Anna O’Connell

President and founder of ADA. Anna is a lawyer (non-practising) specialising in art law and guest lecturer in art law at the LSE in London, where she was appointed Visiting Fellow in 2008. She was formerly a lawyer at the London law firm Stephenson Harwood, lecturer in art law at Sotheby´s Institute of Art and Expert Advisor to the UK's Secretary of State for Culture. She holds a Bachelor in Civil law from University College Dublin and a postgraduate diploma in Asia Art History from University of London, Royal Holloway.

Marta Suárez-Mansilla

Vicepresident of ADA. She is a lawyer and a researcher specialising in art law, and a cultural manager. She is the Founder/Director of her own legal boutique in art and cultural law (www.artworldlaw.com). She teaches art law and art business in numerous MA programs and is author of several papers and publications on art law matters.

Isabel Taylor

Event Coordinator at ADA. Isabel previously served as Curatorial Assistant at TBA21 (Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary) and as Assistant Curator and Public Programmes Coordinator at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires. Isabel holds a Masters Degree in Contemporary Art and Visual Culture from the Museo Reina Sofía and the Complutense University of Madrid and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Buenos Aires.

Alejandro Vergara

Vocal of ADA and Head of Flemish Painting and Northern Schools Collection at the Prado Museum. He holds a degree in Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid and a PhD in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, with a doctoral thesis on Rubens's relationship with Spain. He has taught art history at the University of California, San Diego, and Columbia University, New York, before joining the Museo del Prado as a curator in 1999.

Juan Várez Benegas

Vocal of ADA and is a collector and former President of Christie's Spain. He holds a law degree and a Masters in Ancient European Painting of the 16th and 17th centuries from the Courtauld Institute of Arts in London. He taught Art Market classes for postgraduates at the Instituto de Empresa and at the IArt Institute, in Madrid. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Fundación ARCO, the Fundación Museo ABC, and the Asociación de Amigos de la Hispanic Society and the Fundación Balia.

Rosina Gómez Baeza

Vocal of ADA. Director of ARCO art fair, for 20 years (1986-2006) as well as Director of the 1st Biennial of Art, Architecture and Landscape of the Canary Islands and President of Spain's Institute of Contemporary Art.

Lucía Ybarra

Vocal of ADA and Managing Partner at art advisory firm, YGBART, where she works on the comprehensive development of projects and advice with public and private institutions. Lucia has extensive experience in cultural management, project production and exhibition curating. She was the former Chief Exhibitions Officer at the Museo Arte Reina Sofia for 16 years, and Vice President and Director of External Relations of Factoria Cultural, an incubator of creative industries.
