SESSION 1 | 10am – 11.30am
The Art Market Ecosystem in the 21st Century: who are its protagonists and what is the relationship between them. Until the 21st century, the business models of auctions and galleries were very different. Today, auction houses have expanded their service offerings including private sales and direct sales. On the other hand, galleries have also evolved in their way of operating and fairs have achieved a prominent position. In this course we are going to analyze these changes, the current situation and future prospects.

SESSION 2 | 12.30pm – 2pm
Current state of the art market and future projections
In 2022, the global art market surpassed $67.8 billion, exceeding pre-pandemic levels of 2019. However, growth was more moderate compared to the previous year. Throughout 2023, the market has suffered a slight contraction and it is foreseen the possibility of a setback that will affect different sectors and regions differently. This section will be dedicated to examining the current year’s results to anticipate future trends, considering various geopolitical and economic influences.

SESSION 3 | 4pm – 5.30pm
The digital revolution in the art market and new collecting habits.
The digital revolution has transformed the art market, facilitating online exhibitions, sales and distribution and, thus, expanding access to a global audience. This has changed collecting habits, although it has also underlined the value that in-person events have for collectors. Furthermore, the increasing availability of data and the high prices achieved for certain works have increased interest in art as an investment. In this session, we will discuss how technology is redefining contemporary collecting.
